About me
Kayla Hinrichs is a Health & Wellbeing Extension Educator for Nebraska Extension dedicated to strengthening connections between local farms and schools through the Farm to School program. With a passion for agriculture and nutrition education, Kayla works to empower communities by fostering farm-to-school partnerships that enhances student nutrition, teaches culinary knowledge, and supports local farmers.Specializing in food procurement, and hands-on learning experiences, Kayla collaborates with the Nebraska Department of Education, school districts, farmers, and community stakeholders to bring fresh, locally grown produce into cafeterias and classrooms.As an advocate for the Farm to School movement, Kayla is committed to improving access to fresh, nutritious foods for all students while supporting the local agricultural community. She also finds satisfaction in sharing science-based information with people who seek answers to all types of questions.Kayla lives in Ord, Nebraska with her husband Gary. They have three children, a son Brett, and twins Blake and Jocelyn. Kayla received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Nebraska -Lincoln. She is passionate about home-cooking and preserving produce from their garden and vineyard and is always on the look-out for a great new recipe!
