Dr. Doug Long is a health sciences educator, athletic trainer, and exercise science professional with more than four decades of experience spanning education, clinical practice, and professional leadership. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Health Education and Nutrition Studies from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, a Master of Science in Exercise Science from Fort Hays State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Dr. Long is a certified and licensed athletic trainer and holds a Nebraska Teaching Certificate.Since 2020, Dr. Long has served Hershey Public Schools as a Health Sciences and Science Teacher and Athletic Trainer, where he teaches courses including Athletic Training Foundations, Anatomy and Kinesiology, Body Systems, and Medical Terminology. He also has provided athletic training services for more than 125 student-athletes across eleven sports. In addition, he serves as a Science Teacher Leader for Educational Service Unit 16, supporting professional learning and collaboration among regional science educators.Prior to his work in secondary education, Dr. Long spent over 30 years at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska, where he served as Lead Athletic Trainer and Clinical Exercise Specialist. He developed innovative sports medicine, wellness, and rehabilitation programs, coordinated outreach services for eighteen schools, and supervised collegiate student interns. His career also includes collegiate teaching, adjunct faculty appointments, national conference presentations, peer-reviewed publications, and leadership roles at the state, district, and national levels within the athletic training profession.Dr. Long is a recipient of multiple Hall of Fame honors, professional awards, and competitive grants supporting science and health education.
